4-22 Update
by posted 04/22/2021

Good Afternoon Folks,

A few items today...

1) Please have your daughter wear her jersey to practice (or a reversable pinnie that has white on one side).

2) It's cold tonight, so have them bundle up UNDER the jersey.

3) We still need a volunteer to film the games.

4) The start time for our 5/9 game (away at Northbridge) was moved to 9:00 am (was an afternoon start). Please make note.

5) Reminder that we should be on the main field tonight.

Regards,

Rob

Weekly Update - 4/19
by posted 04/19/2021

Good Afternoon Gang,

1) PRACTICE THIS WEEK

Tuesday at Lemansky (6:00 - 7:30)

Thursday at AHS (6:00 - 7:30) - We're now on the MAIN FIELD on Thursdays.

Also, please make sure your daughter has a ball in her bag to warm up in the event the gear is not there at the start of a practice / game.

2) OUT OF STATE TRAVEL - COVID PROTOCOLS

Please remember that if you're traveling out of state this week, you'll need to follow the MA guidelines for self quarantine.

Here is the latest guidance from the state: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-advisory

In short, if you are returning from out of state, you'll either need to self quarantine for 10 days or produce a negative COVID test within 72 hours of your arrival back to Mass.

3) NEXT GAME - If you daughter is out for this Sunday's game, please confirm with me by WEDNESDAY

Away @ Grafton at 11:30 a.m. | Sunday, 4/25/21 | Grafton High School - 24 Providence Road Grafton, MA

Report Time is 10:30

For those who have not been there. Park in the front and walk around the school to the rear of the building. The field is in the back of the school.

I'll advise either on Saturday or when I arrive on Sunday as to our pregame location. It will most likely be in the back of the left end zone, but that is TBD.

4) WEEKLY VIDEO FOR THE GIRLS - GROUND BALLS!

Lacrosse is a possession game - Getting it, keeping it, dictating it, controlling it...Possession, possession, possession : )

Please have your daughter spend 5 - 10 minutes a few nights this week working on these fundamentals.

The girls should focus mainly three things:

- Getting thier lead hand all the way to the top of the stick (at the cross). They shouldn't see any "stick" between their top hand and the cross.

- Keeping thier back hands low  - Stick should be parallel to the ground (Knuckles on the ground!)

- Keeping thier heads over the ball and their lead foot right next to the ball - No reaching!

4/16 Update
by posted 04/16/2021

Gang,

We've got 15 confirmations, so we're going to have practice at Lemansky tomorrow from 10:30 - 11:45. Due to field conditions, we'll either be on the parking lot or the tennis courts, so just have the girls dress warmly (sweatshirts under jerseys) and wear sneakers, not cleats.

We're going to work on a new offensive install on air, sliding, reinforcement of rides and clears, as well as draw strategy and reps. We will focus mostly on where to go (and why) in certain situations and on certain specific play calls.

Hopefully we'll get a full turnout due to soccer cancellations.

Regards,

Rob

Gang,

We're cancelling practice tonight.

Please let me know if your daughter can make a 60 minute practice on Saturday between 10:30 - 12:00 at Lemansky.

I doubt we will have enough players to hold a practice, but please confirm with me either way by tomorrow afternoon and I'll let everyone know.

Important Update (4/14)
by posted 04/14/2021

Folks,

Two quick updates:

1) NEXT TWO GAMES

Please confirm by TOMORROW if your daughter will NOT be at the games either THIS SUNDAY or NEXT SUNDAY. We need to have personnel in place for Thursday's practice.

2) UNIFORM SHIRTS

Since we got some push-back on wearing the game jerseys to practice, we did try to do our scrimmage sessions with the blue single sided pinnies, but it's not working very well.

So, starting with tomorrow's practice, please have your daughter wear her game jersey to practice as well. Also make sure she is wearing a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or compression shirt underneath, so she can easily switch it on the fly.

If she has another reversable jersey / pinnie from another team, she is welcome to wear that one, as long as it has a colored side AND a white side - Must have a white side.

Thanks...

Regards,

Rob

WEEKLY UPDATE
by posted 04/12/2021

Good Afternoon Folks,

This Week's Update...

1) NORTH CENTRAL GAME

We thought the girls did very well in our week one game against a tough North Central team. North Central is indicative of the teams we'll play this year - Big, skilled, fast, and aggressive. That said, we love how our girls battled. Very proud of the effort, especially with so many new and younger girls on the team.

2) PRACTICE THIS WEEK

Tuesday at Lemansky (6:00 - 7:30)

Thursday at AHS (6:00 - 7:30)

We understand schedules can be difficult and we appreciate your efforts in getting the girls to practice. That said, we do encourage the girls to arrive 15 minutes before practice to throw on the wall, with a partner, or with a coach. Most of the coaches arrive 15 - 30 minutes prior to practice and are eager and happy to help.

Reminder also that 6:00 is the start time (on the field throwing), not the arrival time (just pulling in).

3) NEXT GAME

Home vs. Westborough @ Noon.

Report Time is 11:00.

4) WEEKLY VIDEO FOR THE GIRLS

Fun cradling drill they can do at home - Harder than it looks : )  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGxIZFRATgc

5) NEXT WEEK

We are having practice next week. If you're daughter will not be attending due to spring break plans, please let me know ahead of time. We will have practice both days.

Regards,

Rob

Recording The Games
by posted 04/10/2021

Gang,

Forgot to mention that we need a volunteer to record the games for us. It helps from a coaching standpoint.

That person can of course be the 3rd spectator if designated in that capacity.

Opening Game Notes
by posted 04/10/2021

Good Morning Folks,

A few notes ahead of the opener...

- REPORT TIME

2:30 at the practice field - 2:30 as in fully dressed, on the field, and ready to roll at 2:30. Game starts at 3:30 (tomorrow).

- SPECTATORS

2 per player, masked, and socially distant from adjacent groups

- VIDEOS

Please have the girls watch these two videos on Shooting Space. We're coaching them up on it in practice of course, but especially for the girls newer to the sport, it's a harder concept than it seems. A shooting space violation is a penalty shot and they can be back breakers, so please watch it with them and help them understand the basics.

Shooting Space Notes

- Approach the attacker, not the space in front of her

- Always lead your approach with your stick out and fully extended

Shooting Space 1 (40 second video providing a quick, clear definition and demo)

Shooting Space 2 (This is actually a video for officials. If you'd rather not get that detailed, just watch from 5:34 - 7:11. Although, the rope demo is helpful)

Full Game Video

Once again, for the girls and parents newer to the sport, you may find it beneficial to watch portions of a live game close to our level of play. There are plenty of game videos online of course, but the main things for the girls to watch for is spacing, defensive footwork and stickwork, and the speed of the game

GAME DAY REMINDERS

1) Water only (no disposable bottles)
2) Make sure the uniform fits (we've had some size issues)
3) Don't forget mouthpiece, goggles, stick, sunscreen / bug spray (if needed)
4) Compression / Shirt underneath the jersey top should be white, black, or blue (if possible)
5) NO JEWELRY - The officials will make them remove it. If your daughter must leave an earring because it's freshly pierced, just put a bandaid over it.

Please feel free to call, text, or email me with any questions or concerns you have during the season (508-963-7507)

Thanks so much...

Regards,

Rob
